BOSTON, Mass. – For the second time in three meets this season, Bentley University senior Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) broke her own school record in the 500 meters. The latest record was achieved Friday night during Northeastern University's Joe Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Mattson, first of four in the event, finished in 1:16.58. That bettered the record of 1:16.70 that she set Dec. 1 on the same track, during the UMass-Boston Winter Open. The standard at the start of the year, which she set at the 2017 Northeast-10 Championships, was 1:17.19.

Also competing for the women's team were junior Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/ Narragansett Reg. HS) and sophomores Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) and Abby Caulfield (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS).

Caulfield was fourth of ten in the 800 meters (2:31.53) and Hurwitz was fourth of seven in the 60 hurdles (9.75). Balzora-Rivert finished eighth among 30 competitors in the 200 (26.78) and 11th of 25 in the 60 (8.18).

Six members of the men's team also competed in the meet, including three who ran the 200. Thirty runners participated with junior Robert Moritz (Singapore) the top Falcon finisher. He was 14th in 23.58. Senior Ryan Kenney (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta Sperry HS) was 22nd in 24.01 and junior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) 23rd in 23.07.

Junior Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) was third of four in the 500 (1:09.89), sophomore Anthony Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) seventh of eight in the 60 hurdles (8.95) and sophomore Brian Shevlin (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade HS) was 12th of 20 in the 60 (7.32).

The rest of the team was scheduled to compete in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard on Sunday, but that event has been cancelled due to the impending snow.

Next week, Bentley will be at Boston University for the John Thomas Classic with the women competing Friday and the men Saturday.
