Mattson & Morena Bentley’s Best During John Thomas Terrier Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) and senior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Regional HS) were the top performers for the Bentley University women's indoor track and field team during Friday's John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Morena ran the fourth fastest 5,000-meter time in the Northeast-10 Conference so far this winter, placing 33rd of 61 overall in 18:06.12. That was fourth best among Division II student-athletes in the meet.

Mattson won her heat in the 500 and finished 21st of 47 overall in 1:19.12. That was a new personal best by nearly two seconds and the best by a Bentley runner since 2011. It elevated her to number four on the program's all-time list and to number six on the NE10 performance list.

Mattson also tied for 15th in a field of 39 in the triple jump with her distance of 35 feet, 10 inches matching her personal record, which ranks third in Bentley annals.

Among the other Bentley runners to post new PR's were junior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS), freshman Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) and freshman Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS).

Bartolotta was 86th of 140 in the mile with her 5:24.45 an improvement of 2.60, and Newman was 103rd in the same event. She lowered her previous best by 7.67 seconds to 5:32.56. Lewis ran the 200 meter dash in 27.67, shaving 0.70 seconds off her collegiate best while finishing 130th of 158 in the massive meet.

Next Saturday, Bentley will travel to New Hampshire for the Dartmouth Invitational.
