Mattson Turns in Winning Effort in Long Jump at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) led the Falcon women's outdoor track and field team during the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational Saturday at W.B. Mason Stadium, turning in a winning performance in the long jump.

Mattson, one of 18 participants in the event, cleared a meet-best 17'1.5" to edge second-place finisher Alexandra Curtin of Holy Cross by three inches. It was the fourth individual victory of her rookie season.

Mattson also set a PR in the 200 meters while finishing 19th of 33 overall, and seventh of 18 among Division II athletes, in 27.10. She was also fifth of ten in the triple jump (33'1.75") and part of Bentley's 4x100 relay team that finished in a season-best 52.18.

Sophomore Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) moved to tenth on Bentley's all-time list in the 800, finishing 13th of 32 in 2:22.61. That improved on her previous best by 4.36 seconds.

Junior Julia Morena (Boylston/Wachusett Reg. HS) also set a PR, her time of 4:59.67 in the 1500 meters an improvement of 13.85 seconds. That put her 18th among 34 runners in the event.

Next up for the Falcons is the Northeast-10 Conference Championships May 6-7 at American International College in Springfield.
