Mattson Excels in 1st Collegiate Outdoor Meet, including a Win in the Long Jump

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – After a strong rookie season indoors, Bentley University freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) continued to excel during the Falcons' first outdoor meet of the season Saturday, the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational.

Topping her list of achievements was a winning performance in the long jump with her distance of 15'7.5" elevating her to eighth on Bentley's all-time list. She won by three-and-a-half inches over Merrimack's Lauren McGregor.

Mattson was also fourth of 33 in the 400 meters (1:02.84) and ninth of 58 in the 200 (27.86), as well as pair of Bentley's 4x100 relay team that finished third in 54.39 seconds. That relay also included senior Olyvia Leahy (New Bedford/New Bedford HS) and sophomores Monica Levy (Merrick, N.Y./ Calhoun HS) and Courtney Wilson (Morrisonville, N.Y./Beekmantown Central HS). Wilson was also 10th of 20 in the long jump (14'4") and Leahy 13th of 26 in the 100 hurdles (17.59).

Sophomore Arianne Bourgault (Fitchburg/Fitchburg HS) was eighth of 50 in the 1500 with her 5:10.97 improving on her previous best by 18.51 seconds.

In the 10,000 meters, sophomore Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./Holy Trinity HS) moved to 12th on Bentley's all-time list with her time of 42:31.64 good for 14th overall.

Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
