Morena Excels During David Hemery Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Julia Morena (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) was one of the top performers for the Bentley University women's indoor track and field team Friday night during the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.

Morena ran the 5,000 meters in 18:08.19, a time that elevated her to fourth on the Northeast-10 Conference performance list and fifth in program history. It bettered her previous personal best by about 16 seconds. Morena was fifth among Division II competitors and 45th of 58 overall.

Freshman Stephanie Mattson (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield HS) ran the 200 meters for the first time as a collegian and registered a time of 26.70 seconds. It was the best by a Bentley runner since 2003 and the third best in program history. Nearly 240 runners competed in the 200 and Morena placed 130th overall.

Mattson was also 33rd of 54 in the long jump (16'9.25") and finished the 400 in 60.81 seconds, about two-tenths of a second off her PR.

In the mile, Bentley received PRs from both junior Mary Leach (Peaboy/Peabody Veterans HS) and sophomore Courtney Loughnane (Canton/Canton HS). Leach finished in 5:30.26, a PR by 6.67 seconds, and Loughnane's 5:30.45 improved on her previous best by 5.52 seconds.

Senior Dusty Sacco (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes HS) ran the 800 in 2:31.92, a season-best and an improvement of 5.38 seconds over her performance on the same track two weeks ago.

Next Saturday, Bentley will be at the Reggie Lewis Center for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
