Matuty Wins Twice Again, but Bentley Edged by St. Thomas Aquinas 4-3

Orlando, Fla. – Freshman Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) won two matches for the second day in a row, but St. Thomas Aquinas edged Bentley 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Matuty won her singles match, 6-1, 6-1 over the Spartans' Kristin Hermes in No. 3. Junior Katie Tynan (West Barnstable, Mass./Barnstable) was Bentley's other winner in singles, in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 over Cassandra Rohr in No. 4.

In doubles, Matuty teamed with sophomore Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mound Westonka) for a victory in the No. 1 match, 6-4, over STAQ's Katarina Lopez and Maya O'Brien.

The No. 2 doubles match went to a tiebreak, but went the Spartans' way as Hermes and Amelie Meyers slipped past Tynan and Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington).

Bentley will conclude its Florida swing on Friday when they visit Florida Tech for a 3:00 pm match.
