Bentley Uses Rallies in Singles to Beat USciences 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. – Three Bentley players won three set matches in singles to help the Falcons women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over USciences on Thursday night at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Rachel Hui (Hong Kong) and Evann Welty (Wayzata, Minn./Mount Westonka)rallied from dropping the first set to claim three set victories, while Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) split the first two sets before she won the third set.

In the No. 1 match, Hui dropped the first set 6-0 to Karla Miletic, but came on strong afterwards and won the next two sets 6-3, 6-4. Welty played in the No. 2 match against Abby Gamarnik and dropped the first set 6-1. However, she claimed the second set 6-4 and dominated the third set 6-1.

Brandow and her opponent in the No. 3 match, Elkanah Linder, split the first two sets 6-2, and Brandow won the match with a 6-3 victory in the third set.

Senior Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) didn't need three sets to win her No. 5 match over Julia James, 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles matches, Bentley's team of Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Olivia von Oldenburg (Austin, Texas/Vandegrift) were 8-2 winners in the No. 3 match.

With the victory, the Falcons are now 12-6 on the season overall and 2-1 on their Florida trip. The trip concludes with a match on Saturday against Bloomsburg at the USTA National Campus.
