Bentley Scores 6-3 Win over Franklin Pierce in Home Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley women's tennis team rode two wins in doubles and four in singles en route to a 6-3 victory over visiting Franklin Pierce on Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match. Junior Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) won both of her matches for the Falcons.

Bentley took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to lead 2-1 going into the singles portion. Senior Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and freshman Katie Tynan (West Barnstable, Mass./Barnstable) were 8-2 winners in the No. 1 match, and Petruzziello teamed with junior Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) for a win by the same score in the No. 2 match.

In singles, sophomore Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) was the Falcons' top winner as she took a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sonia Rodrigues in the No. 2 match. Junior Katie Brandow (East Northport, N.Y./East Northport) dropped just one game in dispatching Kara Brazel 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 match.

Petruzziello dominated in the No. 5 match as she swept 6-0, 6-0 over Kelly O'Donnell. Junior Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline Academy) likewise cruised in the No. 6 match, as she defeated Maria Quagliano 6-0, 6-2.

The victory evened Bentley's record to 1-1 on the season. The team is back on the courts on Tuesday at 3:30 when they visit Assumption.
