Bentley Sweeps Salve Regina in Spring Opener

HAVERHILL, Mass. – The Bentley women's tennis team got its spring season off to a winning start with a 9-0 sweep of Salve Regina at the Cedardale Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves Bentley's record to 8-8 on the season after they completed Northeast-10 play in the fall.

Senior Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) led the charge in singles, winning the in the No. 1 position 6-0, 6-0 over Taylor Amendola. Alexia Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven), Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline Academy) and Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) also had strong showings in singles. Petruzziello and Kamphaus dropped just one game in winning the No. 4 and No. 5 matches, respectively, while MacLean swept the No. 6 match.

The doubles action was led by Lexie Hinrichs (Franklin, Mass./Ursuline Academy) and Rachel Madden (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) in the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 victory.

The Falcons, now 8-8 on the season, are back in action on March 14 when they take on Saint Cloud State to begin their spring break trip in Florida.
