Bentley Drops Opener to Assumption 7-2
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley women's tennis team got its 2015-16 season underway on Tuesday afternoon against Northeast-10 rival Assumption, but dropped a 7-2 decision to the Greyhounds. Seniors Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) and Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) won in singles for the Falcons.
Assumption jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. For Bentley, Hetyei and Corrie MacLean (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) came up just short in a 9-8 decision in the No. 3 match.
Yamus took the top singles match for the Falcons, defeating Assumption's Cassie Burbine 6-0, 6-2. Hetyei was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over Paige Benoit in the No. 3 match.
Both Hannah Fabianski (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) and Alexa Petruzziello (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) won a set in their Bentley debuts, in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches respectively, but ultimately dropped three set matches.
Bentley is right back at it tomorrow afternoon when they visit Franklin Pierce.
