Bentley Tops Saint Rose 8-1 in Season Opener

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University swept singles play and defeated Saint Rose 8-1 in women's tennis in the season opener for the Falcons.

Three juniors, Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills), Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) and Brittani Hetyei (Franklin, Mass./Ursuline Academy) won the top three singles matches for Bentley.

Yamus was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in No. 1 singles, Gianino was victorious in the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-2 and Hetyei dropped just one game in the No. 3 match, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Senior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) dropped just one game in taking the No. 4 match, 6-0, 6-1. Two freshmen Olivia von Oldenburg (Austin, Texas/Vandegrift) and Jill Kamphaus (Walpole, Mass./Ursuline Academy) won their debut matches. Von Oldenburg rallied in the No. 5 match after dropping the first set for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory. Kamphaus lost just one game in the No. 6 match, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Bentley is back in action on Sunday when they host Le Moyne.
