Merrimack Stays Unbeaten in Northeast-10 with 8-1 Win over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Merrimack stayed unbeaten in Northeast-10 play with an 8-1 win over the Bentley women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons came into the afternoon right on the heels of Merrimack atop the NE-10 standings with a 6-1 record in conference matches, but the Warriors came away with the victory on this day to improve to 10-0 in the NE-10.

Merrimack swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the match. It was there that Merrimack won the No. 1-No. 5 matches. Bentley's point came in the No. 6 match, with sophomore Maria Ruiz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Bicultural School) defeating Alyx Barnes 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) gave junior Shakee Messina a run in the No. 2 match, but dropped a hard-fought encounter 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Bentley will look to get back on the winning track when they visit Brandeis next Thursday.
