Bentley Strong in Singles, But Defeated by Southern Indiana 6-3

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Bentley women's tennis team won three of six singles matches Monday against Southern Indiana, but ended up on the wrong end of a 6-3 decision to the Screaming Eagles in a non-conference match.

The winners for the Falcons were sophomores Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) and Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and junior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug).

Yamus was a straight sets winner over senior Morgan Coquerille in the first-flight match, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Hetyei took a straight sets victory over sophomore Elizabeth Wilm in the second-flight, 6-4, 7-5. Scott had to rally after dropping the first set to freshman Kymberly Brannon in the fifth-flight. But she emerged with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 win.

However, Southern took the other three singles matches, which was enough after they swept doubles play.

Bentley falls to 5-2 on the season, while the Screaming Eagles improve to 4-6. The Falcons continue their spring break trip on Thursday at Florida Tech.
