Bentley Opens Northeast-10 Campaign with 9-0 Victory Over Franklin Pierce
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University got its Northeast-10 season off to a strong start Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce in women's tennis action. Five different players recorded two wins on the day.
Sophomore Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) had a strong showing in No. 1 singles, defeating Natasha McCarthy 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Mass./Burlington) and freshman Rachel Petrini (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) had similar easy times in No. 2 and No. 3 singles, dispatching their opponents by scores of 6-3, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
That trio was three of the five to win in both singles and doubles. The others were sophomore Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) and freshman Susan Stowe (Hebron, Conn./RHAM).
After winning its first dual match of the season, Bentley is now 1-0 on the season. They are back in action Friday at Saint Anselm.
