Homorodean, Gonzales and Men’s 400 Relay Team Gain NE10 Weekly Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – The latest weekly swimming awards in the Northeast-10 Conference, for the week ending Jan. 21, saw Bentley University student-athletes honored three times with senior Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) the Men's Swimmer of the Week, freshman Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) the Women's Rookie of the Week and the Falcons also receiving Men's Relay Team of the Week honors.

In a pair of dual meets, Homorodean won three individual events, and had a pair of second-place finishes. In a win over Babson, Homorodean captured the 50 yard freestyle in 21.55 seconds and placed second in both the 100 butterfly (51.71) and the 200 medley relay (1:36.84). He took first in both the 100 breaststroke (59.37) and the 100 butterfly (pool-record 51.19) against Pace. It was the second time this season that Homorodean was honored.

Gonzales posted the NE10's best times of the week in four events and was unbeaten in seven swims (four individual, three relay). Her winning times against Babson were 59.34 seconds in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle (54.19) while she took first against Pace in the 200 free (1:55.90) and the 200 back (2:07.37). The award was her second in as many weeks.

Down by 0.53 seconds after three legs, Bentley pulled out the 400 free relay against Babson by 0.64 seconds with a time of 3:10.32 after sophomore Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) swam the final leg in 46.89. The quartet also included senior Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy), Homorodean and classmate Clayton Bennice (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa HS). This marked the sixth time that Bentley's men's relay team was recognized.

Zoda was also named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll, as were senior Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS) and sophomore Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS).

Zoda was responsible for four victories and three second-place finishes during a 2-0 week. In individual events, he was first in the 100 free (47.18) and second in the 50 free (21.67) against Babson as well as first in the 1000 (10:12.22) against Pace. He helped Bentley to relay wins in each and was part of two other relays that placed second. His times in both the 100 and 200 free were the best in the conference during the week.

Logozzo swept diving against Babson with winning scores of 255.75 from the one-meter board and 225.20 from the three-meter. She was a close second to teammate Mary Huminski in both events against Pace, putting up scores of 222.07 (one-meter) and 225.97 (three-meter).

Slowe captured four different individual events in the two duals. Her top performances against Babson came in the 500 freestyle (5:13.95) and the 200 individual medley (2:14.87), and she placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.92) and the 400 IM against Pace (4:39.75). On the week's NE10 performance list, she was first in both the 400 IM and 500 free.
