Bentley Stands in 4th After Day 2 of Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – After amassing a second, two thirds, a fourth and two fifths on Saturday, the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving team finished day two of the Gompei Invitational in fourth place. Action concludes at WPI on Sunday.

Bentley, with 2,623.5 points, is in a battle with the host Engineers for third place, trailing WPI by 74.5 points. Bryant University is at the top of the leaderboard with 4,173 points and Rowan College is second with 3,093.

Bentley's highest finish on day two was turned in by the mixed 400 yard medley relay team of sophomores Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS) and Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS), junior Paul Homordean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) and freshman Katelyn Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./ Suffern HS). They achieved a 3:43.87, finishing 8.65 seconds after Division I Bryant.

The top individual showings were achieved by freshman Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./ Clayton Valley HS) and Slowe. Vizental was third in the 400 individual medley (4:09.29) and Slowe had an identical finish in the 200 freestyle (1:54.79).

In the mixed 200 free relay, Bentley was fourth with Homordean, Slowe, Galvin and sophomore Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS) combining for a 1:31.13.

Bentley was fifth in both 200 free relays with the men turning in a 1:25.62 and the women a 1:38.36. The men's quartet included Homorodean, Zoda, senior Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) and junior Clayton Bennice (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa HS) while the women's foursome included Slowe, Galvin, freshman Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) and junior Emily LaRovere (Lynnfield/Phillips Exeter Acad.).

Papsco took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke, reaching the wall in 58.25 seconds.
