Six Bentley Swimmers Receive Academic Northeast-10 Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Six members of the Bentley University swimming and diving teams, the most of any institution, have received Academic All-Conference laurels from the Northeast-10 Conference.

From the men's team, Bentley's honorees were seniors Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) and Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) and juniors Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) and Matt Bandy (Manhattan, Kans./Manhattan HS).

The Bentley women who were recognized were seniors Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS) and Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS).

Elenio collected Academic All-Conference honors for the third time while Bandy, McGeary and Jameson were repeat honorees.

Elenio, who has achieved a 3.52 grade point average as an accountancy major, was the 2019 Northeast-10 champion in the 200 yard individual medley, the 400 IM and the 800 free relay. He also collected three bronze medals at the conference championships and broke a half-dozen school records (three individual, three relay) during the meet.

McGeary, owner of a 3.58 GPA as an economics-finance major, finished his career with 13 Northeast-10 medals, matching Elenio's total. He helped Bentley to gold in three free relays during the NE10's and swam to second in the 200 free and third in both the 400 free and the 400 medley relay.

Alkaya was part of Bentley's gold-medal winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams at this year's Northeast-10 Championships, with both of those turning in school-record performances. Individually, his highest finish was placing third in the 100 free. In the classroom, he's earned a 3.66 GPA as a finance major.

Bandy, an accountancy major with a 3.72, was sixth in both the 400 IN and the 200 breaststroke at the NE10's, as well as eighth in the 200 IM. He is scheduled to graduate next month, a year early.

Jameson, who has earned ten medals during her career with five golds among them, has achieved a 3.77 GPA while majoring in marketing. She helped Bentley to the 2019 NE10 championship in the 800 free relay, setting both a meet and school record in the process. She was also third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free.

Viator, during the conference championships, was second in the 1000 free, third in the 200 free relay and fourth in the 1650 free, and broke the school record in the 1000. She majors in both mathematical science and business studies, and has achieved a 3.72 GPA.

Both Bentley teams had successful years. The men turned in a third straight undefeated dual record before capturing the NE10 championship. The women were 11-0 in dual competition and second in the conference championships.
