McGahie Breaks School Record Twice During Gompei Invitational at WPI
WORCESTER, Mass. – During the first full day of competition in the Gompei Invitational at WPI, Bentley University junior Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) broke her own school record in the 100 yard individual medley twice while finishing second in the event.
McGahie posted a 1:00.97 in the morning prelims, bettering the 1:05.15 she set in the same meet a year ago, and was even better in the finals, reaching the wall in 1:00.70. Only Assumption's Victoria Weber beat her as she won in 1:00.22.
McGahie's day also included a third in the 50 freestyle (24.71) and a pair of fourth-place finishes in relays. She combined with freshman Kate Kaduboski (Dedham/Dedham HS) and sophomores Jess Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) and Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) for a 1:41.30 in the 200 free, and with Kaduboski, Niemiec and freshman Brooke Jameson (Bedford/Bedford HS) for a 7:52.41 in the 800 free.
Niemiec was the runner-up in the 200 IM with her time of 2:09.44 third best in program history and was also eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.83).
Senior Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS) posted a 379.00 on the three-meter board, good for fourth place.
Kaduboski and classmate Melissa Viator (Lubbock, Texas/Lubbock HS) had a pair of top ten finishes in individual events. Viator was sixth in the 200 back (2:09.43) and tenth in the 200 IM (2:14.98) while Kaduboski placed ninth in the 200 IM (2:14.46) and tenth in the 200 back (2:11.14). Bentley also received a ninth from Jameson in the 500 free (5:20.82).
In the team standings, Bentley is sixth among 11 teams with 828.5 points. Five teams have topped 1,000 with Assumption College leading Bryant University 1,619-1,615 after 24 events.
Sunday's action will get underway at 8:30 am.
