Edwards Leads Bentley to 168-130 Win over Le Moyne

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Nadine Edwards (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS) won three events and also participated on the Falcons' winning 200 yard free relay as Bentley University posted a 168-130 victory over Le Moyne College in women's college swimming action Sunday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Edwards posted victories in the meet's longest race, the 1000 freestyle (11:21.24), and the shortest, the 50 free (26.26), as well as the 500 free (5:30.93). The closest was the 50 where she edged classmate Danielle Hellstern (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug HS)  by six-hundredths of a second. Bentley went 1-2-3 in that event with freshman Jessica Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) third in 26.76.

Edwards, Hellstern and Chen also combined with sophomore Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/ Tahanto Reg. HS) to close out the meet with a winning time of 1:43.75 in the 200 free relay. Hellstern was also second in the 200 free, finishing in 2:03.19, and McGahie was first to the wall in the 100 free (55.83), as well as second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.36).

Senior Paige Wilde (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross HS) was a double-winner for the Falcons, sweeping the two one-meter diving events with scores of 176.93 and 258.44. Her combined tally of 435.37 met the standard for the NCAA Division II Pre-Qualification Meet in March.

Bentley's other victory came in the 200 butterfly with freshman Anne Warren (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron HS) finishing in 2:18.27.

Sophomore Lindsey Goodwin (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Emily Niemiec (Meriden, Conn./Francis T. Maloney HS) each had two second-place finishes. Goodwin was second in the two backstroke events with times of 1:07.06 in the 100 and 2:21.21 in the 200. Niemiec's seconds came in the 200 individual medley (2:17.43) and the 200 breaststroke (238.20).

Bentley, 1-1, will swim at Roger Williams University Friday night.
