Le & Mancini Top Performers for Bentley During Day 2 of WPI Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Amanda Le (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS) and sophomore All-America diver Nicola Mancini (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) were the top performers for the Bentley University women's swimming and diving team during the second day of the Gompei Invitational Sunday at WPI.

Their efforts helped Bentley finish fifth among nine teams with a two-day score of 1,903 points. WPI finished at the top of the team standings with a 420-point margin over Assumption College, 3357.5-2937.5.

Le, who had three top four finishes on Saturday, was fifth in both the 50 yard backstroke (29.98 seconds) and the 50 breaststroke (32.84) as well as seventh in the 200 breast (2:35.14). In addition, she helped Bentley finish sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:56.41).

That relay also included freshman Kaitlin McGahie (Boylston/Tahanto Reg. HS) and sophomores Meg Pernsteiner (Highland Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) and Melissa Clauss (Oakland, N.J./Bergen County Academies).

Mancini made it two-for-two in the diving events, capturing the one-meter competition by about 12 points with 447.65. On Saturday, she set a school record while winning the three-meter event.

Bentley had a pair of fourth-place finishes on Sunday, McGahie in the 100 freestyle (56.37) and sophomore Courtney Stone (Andover/Andover HS) in the one-meter diving (358.25). McGahie was also eighth in the 200 free (2:06.77) and senior Caroline Lewis (Westfield/Westfield HS) placed eighth in the 50 back (29.98).

This meet concluded the 2013 portion of the schedule for the Falcons, whose next meet will be Jan. 3 at Plymouth State.
