3 Golds, 6 School Records for Bentley Women During 1st Day of NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION. Vt. -- With senior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS) leading the way, the opening day of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships saw members of the Bentley University women's swim team earn three gold medals, record four NCAA "B" cuts and break six school records Friday at the Upper Valley Aquatics Center.

Gold medals were earned by Kaduboski in the 200 yard backstroke, sophomore Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) in the 50 breaststroke and freshman Erin Campbell (Marshfield, Mass./ Marshfield HS) in the 200 individual medley.

Kaduboski's eighth career gold saw her post a time of 2:03.40, shaving 1.23 seconds off the record that Kari Anderson of Williams College had owned since 1992. It bettered her own school record, set two weeks ago at the Northeast-10 Championships by 0.95 seconds, and improved on the "B" cut she had previously achieved.

Hodsdon successfully defended the championship in the 50 breast that she won a year ago, with a time of 30.04 seconds.

Campbell took the 200 IM in 2:11.24, a time slightly higher than the 2:11.04 she recorded in the prelims earlier in the day. The latter broke a school record, formerly owned by Hodsdon by 0.4 seconds, and was a "B" cut performance.

Hodsdson was also part of two school-record setting relay teams that each finished second. In the meet's first event, she swam the opening leg as Bentley posted a time of 1:38.86, about two-thirds of a second better than the school record set at the NE-10 Championships earlier in the month. Following Hodsdon into the pool were freshmen Amy Shin (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) and Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) and sophomore Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./ Farmington HS).

Later, Kaduboski and Hodsdon swam the first two legs of Bentley's 400 medley relay that lowered the existing school record 0.12 seconds to 3:54.82, an NCAA "B" cut performance. Power swam the third leg and Drogosz closed.

During the prelims of the 400 medley relay, Kaduboski swam the backstroke in 57.80 seconds, shattering her own school record by 2.24 seconds. That was also a "B" cut.

Bentley's final school record of day one came in the 500 freestyle with junior Susie Boretti (Westford, Mass,/Westford Academy) placing third in 5:18.78. That improved on the standard she set in last year's meet by five-hundredths of a second.

Power took silver in the 100 fly, touching in 58.27 seconds.

Bentley finshed the opening day with a meet-best 555 points and a lead of 78.5 points over second-place Keene State. The Owls actually had more points in Friday's swimming, but Bentley entered with a 158-64 lead after a strong showing in the diving portion of the meet last weekend.

The 21-team meet will continue through Sunday evening.
