Record-Setting and NCAA-Qualifying Day for Kaduboski at Northeast-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Bentley University senior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS) set two individual school records, anchored a relay team that broke another school record and punched her ticket to next month's NCAA Division II Championships Sunday evening during the final day of the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Her efforts in the meet, and those of her teammates, helped Bentley finish second in the team standings with a total of 624 points. It was the Falcons' highest finish in seven years, when they were also second, and their highest scoring total in five years.  Southern Connecticut State repeated as champion of the eight-team meet with 955 points.

Kaduboski's second school individual record of the meet came in the 200 yard backstroke when she was second to the wall. Her time of 2:04.35 was an NCAA "B" cut, and it broke the school record she set at the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships by 0.64 seconds.

The senior secured her third trip to the nationals later in the evening when she posted an "A" cut in the 200 butterfly.  She finished in 2:03.04, second to Southern Connecticut's Amanda Thomas, and reduced the school that she set at the 2008-09 conference championships by 1.08 seconds.  Entering this weekend, only two Division II swimmers nationwide had recorded a better 200 fly time.

Kaduboski's final swim of the meet included another second-place finish and another school record, this time in the 400 freestyle relay. Freshman Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) led off, sophomores Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) and Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) followed, and Kaduboski closed for a time of 3:38.48, a school record by 1.74 seconds.

Bentley's other school record of the night came in the 200 breaststroke with Hodsdon placing third in 2:25.82, an NCAA "B" cut and nearly five seconds faster than the standard that Brianne Tulley owned since 2005.

In the three-meter diving Sunday afternoon, Bentley took third and fourth with senior Emily Travers (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) registering a score of 345.65 and sophomore Abby Mathews (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) exactly four points behind her.

Earlier in the meet, both Travers and Mathews had those identical finishes in the one-meter, with scores of 353.75 and 353.40, respectively. Bentley's top diver off the one-meter was sophomore Shelly D'Eleo (Enfield, Conn./Suffield Academy), who was second with a 369.15.

Bentley had success in the 100 free Sunday night with Power third (54.21), freshman Amy Shin (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Reg. HS) fifth (55.08) and Drogosz eighth (55.52).

Sunday's action also saw junior Susie Boretti (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) take sixth in the 1650 free (18:18.63), sophomore Taryn Dooley (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam HS) record an eighth in the 200 back (2:15.03) and freshman Erin Campbell (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield HS) do the same in the 200 breast (2:29.43).

Next up for the Falcons is the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships with the diving next weekend at Bentley and the swimming events in two weeks in White River Junction, Vt.
