Bentley Women Set Two School Records During Day 1 of Northeast-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bentley University women's swimming team broke two program records during the opening day of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Friday at Southern Connecticut State University.

Sophomore Jessica Hodsdon (Brewer, Maine/Brewer HS) was involved with both and had the team's highest individual finish of the opening day. She finished fourth in the 200 yard individual medley with her time of 2:12.97 breaking her own school record, set in December 2009, by 1.53 seconds. It was also an NCAA Division II "B" cut performance.

Earlier in the evening, Hodsdon swam the third leg of Bentley's 200 freestyle relay team, which finished third in 1:39.51, a school record by 0.85 seconds. Freshman Amy Shin (Lancaster, Mass./ Nashoba Reg. HS) led off, sophomore Monika Drogosz (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) followed her into the pool, and freshman Kellen Power (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) closed.

Bentley's highest day one showing came in the 400 medley relay with Drogosz, Hodsdon, senior Anne Kaduboski (Dedham, Mass./Dedham HS) and Power combining to finish second in 3:59.66.

In the 50 freestyle, Shin and Drogosz finished fifth and sixth respectively, with times of 25.35 and 25.46 seconds.

As a team, Bentley finished the day in second place out of eight teams. The Falcons, with a score of 218, trail the host institution by 99 points.

The championships continue through Saturday, with action beginning at 10 am each day.
