Bentley Selected to First Ever NCAA Tournament, Will Play Molloy in First Round on Friday

Waltham, Mass. – Bentley was selected to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship on Monday as the No. 6 seed in the East Region. The Falcons will play the No. 3 seed Molloy in the first round on Friday at 10:00 am on the campus of Mercy College.

It's the first time in program history the Falcons have been selected to the NCAA Tournament.

The half of the East Region that Bentley is in will be hosted by the No. 2 seed Mercy College. Mercy plays the No. 7 seed Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 pm on Friday, and the winner of that game and the Bentley-Molloy game would meet in the second round on Sunday at 12:00 pm.

The top half of the East Region has Saint Rose as the No. 1 seed going against the No. 8 seed Daemen, and the No. 4 seed Stonehill against No. 5 Jefferson.

The Falcons went 10-7-2 in the regular season and advanced to the NE10 semifinals after they defeated Southern New Hampshire 1-0 in the quarterfinals. In the semis, they gave the top seed and eventual winners Saint Rose a tough game before falling 3-2.

The team featured a stingy defense all season that produced 10 shutouts, five in a row from Oct. 11-Oct. 30 and a streak of just over 500 minutes without a goal allowed. Senior center back Riane Hunt (Millis, Mass./Millis) and junior goalie Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) were two of the team's five All-Conference selections, along with midfielder Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington), forward Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) and freshman McKenzie Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield).

Bentley will enter the NCAAs with a 7-1-1 record over the last nine games, with the only defeat being to Saint Rose.

Bentley and Molloy played early in the year in what was just the second game of the season for both teams, on Sept. 8. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
