Bentley Hosts Southern New Hampshire in NE10 Quarterfinals Sunday

Waltham, Mass. – The Northeast-10 playoffs come to Bentley as the Falcons will host Southern New Hampshire on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the NE10 Women's Soccer Championship. The match gets underway at 1:00 pm and can be seen on NE10 Now.

Bentley finished in 4th place in the NE10 regular season with a 7-5-1 record for 22 points and is the No. 4 seed. They will be opposed by the No. 5 seed Penmen, who finished with an identical NE10 record of 7-5-1 for 22 points.

The Falcons will be the home team on Sunday thanks to their 2-0 home victory over SNHU back on Oct. 22. The Penmen were nationally ranked at the time, but goals from freshman Haley Bernhardt (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) in the 47th minute and junior Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) in the 67th saw Bentley earn the win. They also limited SNHU to just five shots the entire game.

That win was part of an impressive shutout streak that reached five games and more than 500 minutes. And as a result of that stingy defense, the Falcons ended the regular season with the third lowest team goals against average in the NE10 at 0.96

Bentley will enter the postseason with a seven game unbeaten streak at 6-0-1. There was a six game winning streak from Oct. 11-Nov. 2 that was only stopped with a 0-0 tie at Saint Anselm in the regular season finale on Tuesday.

They were one of the most well-represented teams on the NE10 All-Conference teams that were announced on Friday. Senior center back Riane Hunt (Millis, Mass./Millis) was named to the first team. Junior goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) and sophomore midfielder Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) were voted to the second team. Guccione was named to the third team and midfielder McKenzie Sullivan (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) earned a spot on the All-Rookie team.

Sunday's game will be Bentley's second postseason appearance in the last three seasons. In 2017 they played at SNHU as the No. 7 seed. This will be the first time Bentley will host a postseason game since 2002, when they defeated Southern Connecticut in the quarterfinals 2-1.
