Winning and Shutout Streak Hits Five as Bentley Defeats NYIT 2-0

Old Westbury, NY. – Bentley women's soccer earned its five straight win, all shutouts, with a 2-0 victory at New York Tech in a non-conference match on Wednesday.

The Falcons defense has now gone 466 minutes without allowing a goal, more than five games. They stifled the Bears today and allowed just one shot the entire 90 minutes.

Both of the goals came in the second half. Freshman Haley Bernhardt (Swampscott, Mass./Swampscott) scored in the 68th minute and sophomore Emily McGrath (Brewster, Mass./Nauset) in the 74th.

Bernhardt's goal came off a corner kick that was sent in from the right corner by junior Keagan Castles (Leominster, Mass./Nashoba). Bernhardt ran to the edge of the six yard box to meet the ball and volleyed it past the hands of NYIT's keeper for the goal, her 2nd of the season.

Just over six minutes later McGrath made it 2-0 with her 2nd of the season. Junior Chloe Gizzi (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) won the ball in midfield and played a pass to McGrath on the left wing. McGrath raced down the wing and once she reached the penalty area made a slight cut to her right to rip a shot to the far post past the keeper's outstretched arms for the goal.

The win improved Bentley's record to 8-6-1 on the season. They will go for six wins in a row when they host Saint Michael's on Saturday at 11:00 am for Senior Day.
