Silva, Hassapis Help Bentley Top Assumption 1-0

Waltham, Mass. – Freshman Liliana Silva (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) scored in the 49th minute and goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) made several big saves to help the Bentley women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Assumption on Wednesday.

Silva's goal and Hassapis' seven saves helped the Falcons pick up a big three points over the NE10 rivals.

After a scoreless first half, Bentley went ahead early in the second half. A run from midfield by sophomore Emily McGrath (Brewster, Mass./Nauset) led to a pass to Silva just outside of the penalty area. Once in possession Silva dribbled around a defender and ripped a shot from 15 yards to the far corner to give Bentley the lead.

Hassapis helped the lead stand up with some big saves. She twice denied Assumption's Annie Irwin, first in the 74th minute and again in the 81st to keep Bentley in front.

With the win, Bentley improved to 3-4-1 overall on the season and 2-3 NE10, while the Greyhounds dropped to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 NE10.

Bentley will look for another win on Saturday when they travel up to Franklin Pierce. Kick off for that one is 7:00 pm.
