Stonehill Edges Bentley 2-1 on Henry’s Goal

Waltham, Mass. – Sophomore forward Kayla Henry scored the deciding goal in the 76th minute to help Stonehill to a 2-1 victory over Bentley on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) got Bentley off to a 1-0 lead after just four minutes with her 5th goal of the season. Freshman Dana Goulet (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) set the goal up with her third assist in two games with a cross sent in from the right wing. Valente met the cross on the goal line and volleyed it in to give Bentley the early lead.

Stonehill though got the tying goal in the 23rd minute on a solo effort by freshman Camryn Thompson for her 9th goal of the year after she played the ball to herself and scored on a shot to the far post from 12 yards out.

With the game 1-1 in the second half, Bentley had a great chance to score in 48th minute when a shot from close range by senior Carly Kohler (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) forced a diving save out of Stonehill keeper Kaitlin Brown.

Bentley had another good chance in the 63rd minute as a shot by sophomore Kelly Donlon (Meriden, Conn.) from the left was just cleared off the line by a Stonehill defender, and the ball fell into the arms of Brown.

Stonehill then got the go-ahead goal from Henry with about 14 minutes remaining after she won a race to a loose ball just outside the 18 yard box and scored from 12 yards out.

The win improved the Skyhawks' record to 13-4 overall and 10-4 NE10 on the season, and is their 7th in a row, while Bentley dropped to 6-6-3 overall and 5-6-2 NE10. They will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at New Haven, with kickoff set for 1:00 pm.
