Kent’s Goal Helps Bentley Defeat Pace 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) scored in the 73rd minute to help the Bentley University women's soccer team secure a big 1-0 win over Northeast-10 rival Pace on Tuesday afternoon.

The win is the team's second in a row, and extends its unbeaten streak to three games at 2-0-1. Now 4-6-1 in NE10 matches on the season, the win is a big one in Bentley's NE10 playoff chase with three matches remaining.

Kent's goal started with a corner kick on the left side of the field from Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater). The ball was headed out of the penalty area to Sam Avallone (East Northport, N.Y./Northport), who played a pass to Kent, positioned just outside the box about 20 yards from goal in the right corner. Her shot got through traffic and past the Pace keeper to give the Falcons the lead with just under 18 minutes remaining.

Bentley then saw the rest of the game out, which included a key defensive stop on one of Pace's final possessions in the game's final seconds.

With the game scoreless after 45 minutes, Bentley withstood some strong pressure by the Setters in the early parts of the 2nd half. The visitors got off five shots in a span of three minutes, which began in the 60th minutes, but the Falcons defense and goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) kept them all out.

Hassapis made five saves on the day to earn the win.

Bentley will look to make it three wins in a row on Saturday when they visit Le Moyne.
