Kent’s Goal Sends Bentley to 2-1 Double OT Win Over Southern Conn

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior forward Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) scored in the 103rd minute to send the Bentley women's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime victory over Southern Connecticut State on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Kent's goal came on top of a late equalizer by Falcons sophomore Stephanie Helin (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic), who scored in the 84th minute to level the match 1-1 and send it to OT. Helin's goal came just about 10 minutes after Southern Conn scored the game's first goal in the 74th minute from Victoria Buonanni, after the teams had been locked in scoreless tie for most of the afternoon.

Helin's goal came after she took a pass in the penalty area from junior Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater). Her shot got past the Southern Conn keeper to the bottom right corner of the net for her 3rd goal of the season, and McDonald's 4th assist.

Helin had another shot in the 88th minute that was saved by SCSU keeper Gabrielle Arruda.

In the first overtime, Bentley's freshman goalkeeper Kat Hassapis (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) saved a shot from Rossella Graniero in the 94th minute. The only other shot of the first overtime period came from Bentley's Sammy Millman (Northport, N.Y./Northport), which went wide.

Then in the second overtime period, Kent won it for the Falcons just under three minutes in, on the first shot of the period. Freshman Emma Guccione (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) had the assist, setting Kent up for a shot from five yards out for the winning goal.

It's the second overtime winner of Kent's career, after she scored in double overtime in last season's win over AIC.

Hassapis, who made her 2nd straight start, made nine saves to earn her first career victory.

Bentley, now 3-6-1 in the Northeast-10, is next in action on Tuesday when they host Pace for a 3:30 pm start.
