WATHAM, Mass. – Bentley University and 12^th ranked Adelphi University were locked in a 1-1 battle in the 2^nd half, but the Panthers ended up pulling away to take a 5-1 victory over the home standing Falcons in a Northeast-10 match on Saturday. Senior forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) scored her 7^th goal of the season for Bentley.

Early in the first half, Bentley had a great early chance to seize the lead on a chance by Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS). Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan HS) played her through with a pass from the right wing, which allowed McDonald to dribble in on goal for a clean shot. However, her low drive was kick saved by Adelphi keeper Anne Marie Ulliac.

The Panthers though were the first to get on the board when junior Jeanine Nunez scored for the 6^th time this season in the 15^th minute. Winger Taylor Sipos played a ball into the penalty area from the right wing, which Nunez got on the end of, and allowed her to direct a shot to the far post to put the visitors up 1-0.

That was the score at halftime, but shortly after the break, Tantum scored a great equalizer in the 56^th minute to level the match 1-1. Valente was involved again, as she threaded a through ball in midfield to Tantum on left wing. Tantum then broke in on goal, and fired in a low shot from 12 yards out that beat the Adelphi keeper to the far post.

The turning point of the match came just over two minutes later though, as Adelphi's Victoria Antonino put them ahead 2-1, after she got on the end of a cross from the right wing by Nunez and finished from close range.

That stayed the score until the 75^th minute, when a goal by left wing Laura Gomez began a spurt of three goals in a seven minute span for the Panthers. Gomez would score again in the 81^st minute, followed by senior Morgan Santoro scoring her 12^th of the year in the 82^nd minute.

The victory is the 3^rd in a row for the Panthers, who have beaten two top-five ranked teams this season. The Falcons' records drop to 5-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the NE-10. They are back in action on Tuesday afternoon to host Stonehill at 3:30 pm.
