MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bentley University's first defeat of the season came in the final seconds, as Southern N.H. scored in the 90th minute to win it 2-1, and just over a minute after the Falcons had scored the tying goal from freshman Stephanie Helin (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic HS).
Helin's tying goal knotted the match 1-1 in the 89th minute and looked to send it to overtime. The goal came after freshman Riane Hunt (Millis, Mass./Millis HS) played a long ball into the box after a throw-in. The ball took a big bounce and Helin beat her marker to it, and got a low shot off that beat the keeper for the tying goal from 12 yards out.
Just over a minute later though, the Penmen scored the winning goal on a shot by forward Trisha Luis to the near post to give them a 2-1 lead.
SNHU took an early 1-0 lead in just the 3rd minute off a goal midfielder Shae Roys off a scramble in front of the net and a shot to the upper corner of the net.
The defeat snapped Bentley's seven game unbeaten start to the season, still the teams record stands at 2-1-2 in the Northeast-10 and 5-1-2 overall. The Penmen improved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 NE-10.
The Falcons' next game is at home on Saturday at 11 am against Adelphi as part of Homecoming Day.
