Bentley Runs Rampant in 4-2 Win at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bentley University women's soccer team kept its perfect start to the 2016 season going and is now 4-0 after defeating Assumption 4-2 on the road Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 match.

Forwards Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) and Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan HS) were both heavily involved again. Tantum had one goal and two assists and Valente had one goal and one assist.

After a scoreless opening 21 minutes, the Falcons got on the board on Tantum's 5th goal of the season off of a corner kick by Valente. After the kick was played in, Tantum got a touch in the six yard box, fought off her marker and lifted a shot over the goalie to make it 1-0 in the 22nd minute.

The Greyhounds tied it on a goal by forward Amanda Arnold in the 33rd minute, but the game didn't stay tied long as sophomore Lauren Bean (Newburyport/Newburyport HS) gave Bentley the lead back five minutes later. Valente got the play started by dribbling into the offensive half, before playing a pass off to Tantum on the right wing. Tantum beat her marker down the flank and played a cross into the box, that Bean ran onto and fired a shot into the back of the net for the goal.

Just over a minute later, sophomore Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS) made it 3-1. A shot by Tantum was deflected off an Assumption defender, but McDonald was there to volley in the rebound to extend the lead in the 39th minute.

The Falcons picked up where they left off early in the 2nd half for their 4th goal of the night. Valente gathered a long goal kick from goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester/Winchester HS), dribbled in and lashed a shot under the keeper's arms to put Bentley up 4-1 in the 52nd minute.

Assumption didn't add its 2nd goal until the game was in hand in the 87th minute.

The Falcons will go for 5-0 on Saturday when they visit Pace. Kick time is 3:30 pm.
