Bentley Drops Heartbreaker to Le Moyne, 3-2 in 2OT

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A goal by Le Moyne sophomore Kelly Ristoff with just 39 seconds before time expired gave the Dolphins a 3-2 victory over the Bentley women's soccer team on Saturday in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams.

The Falcons led 2-1 for much of the match, on the strength of first half goals by a pair of freshmen, Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Jamie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro). But Le Moyne equalized on a penalty kick in the 87th minute, and won it on Ristoff's goal just 39 seconds before the match would have ended in a tie.

The match's first three goals came in the opening 23 minutes, with Le Moyne's Rachel Terry giving the home side a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, on a shot from the top of the penalty area for her fifth goal of the season in just four games.

But Tantum, who has made an early impact for Bentley this season, leveled the score in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal, her second of the season, beating Dolphins goalie Tori Corsaro from 12 yards out.

Grinavic then put the Falcons in front in the 23rd minute. Her initial shot from close range deflected off the post, but she won the battle for the loose ball and knocked it in to give Bentley a 2-1 advantage.

The score line stayed that way until Le Moyne was awarded a penalty kick after a Bentley foul in the penalty box. Terry, who netted Le Moyne's first goal, stepped up to the spot and converted to tie the match up at two in the 87th minute, which eventually sent the match into overtime.

The first 10 minute OT period did not yield a winner, sending the match to a second OT. With it looking like the match would end in a tie as it entered the 110th and final minute, Ristoff made a run down the sideline and scored from just six yards out to give the Dolphins a dramatic win.

The win improves Le Moyne's record to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10, and Bentley drops to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NE-10. Its next match is Wednesday at Saint Anselm.
