Skagerlind Scores Twice in Bentley’s 3-3 Draw with New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior back Jenna Skagerlind (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) scored two goals as the Bentley women's soccer team played New Haven to a 3-3 draw Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference match.

Bentley held a 3-2 lead after freshman Elena Oschsenreither (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) put them in front in the 73rd minute, taking advantage of a New Haven turnover in its own end and beating Chargers keeper Moriah Saidel with a shot to the far post.

The Falcons looked to be closing in on a victory as the match progressed into its latter stages, but they couldn't quite finish it off as junior Monica Yanez equalized for New Haven in the 88th minute.

Neither team found the net in overtime and the match ended in a 3-3 draw. Bentley (3-0-2, 1-0-2 NE-10) though extends its unbeaten streak to five to begin the season and has five points from three conference matches. New Haven (4-1-1, 1-1-1 NE-10) has four points from its first three conference matches.

Skagerlind gave Bentley the perfect start to this match, putting her side in front in the 5th minute with a 20 yard shot for her first goal of the year. The Chargers though tied it at one just under two minutes later through Nicole Pacapelli's third goal of the season, then went in front 2-1 in the 37th minute on Lucy Francisco's 15 yard shot that curled into the upper right corner of the net.

Not long after halftime in the 54th minute Skagerlind scored her second of the afternoon to tie the match at two, taking advantage of a loose ball in the six yard box and putting it into the back of the net.

Falcons goalkeeper Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) made eight saves as her record goes to 3-0-2 on the season.

Bentley is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they visit Saint Michael's for a 4:00 p.m. match.
