No. 19 Bentley Hangs Tough but Falls to No. 2 Adelphi 11-6

Garden City, N.Y. – 19th ranked Bentley hung tough with No. 2 ranked Adelphi, but the Panthers pulled away late in the 2nd half for an 11-6 win over the Falcons on Tuesday night.

Bentley trailed just 7-6 after a goal by freshman Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) with 15:48 left in the 2nd half. But Adelphi closed the game on a 4-0 run to pull away. The run started with a goal by junior Alison Johnson with 10:22 remaining, and the following three goals came over the next six minutes.

Bentley outscored Adelphi 3-1 over the first 10 minutes of the second half after they trailed 5-2 at halftime. Sophomore Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) scored on a free-position shot 3:56 into the half. After a man-down goal by Adelphi's Lena Riportella, Bentley scored two straight. Senior MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) scored on a free-position at 22:02, and Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) converted a free-position attempt at 20:37 to make it a 6-5 game.

Adelphi's Kole Pollock responded with a goal at 19:24, but Boudreau's second goal of the game for Bentley four minutes later made it a one goal game again, but that would be their last goal of the night.

In the first half, the Falcons received goals from Boudreau and McCarthy.

Bentley goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made nine saves as they held Adelphi under its season average of 14 goals per game.

Adelphi improved to 11-1 overall and 8-0 NE10, while Bentley's three game winning streak was snapped and they fall to 8-2 and 6-2 NE10.
