Bentley Opens Season with 12-3 Victory at AIC

Springfield, Mass. – Sophomores Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) and Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Salem) led the attack as the Bentley University women's lacrosse team defeated AIC 12-3 in its season opener on Wednesday afternoon.

Glavin had four goals and two assists and McCarthy had three goals to power the offense. Goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 11 saves.

Bentley turned a tight 5-2 game at halftime and pulled away in the second half by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 7-1.

The Falcons scored four times in a span of four minutes, starting at the 23:52 mark, to open up a 9-2 lead. McCarthy had two of the goals during the run, the other two were scored by Glavin and Megan Lynch (Wilton, Conn./Wilton).

The teams battled through a low-scoring first half that saw just three goals in the first 27 minutes. Freshman Kayli Keenan (Pelham, N.H./Bishop Guertin) netted the first goal of the season 5:02 into the game. Another freshman, Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough), got the scoresheet at the 12:15 mark to give Bentley a 2-1 lead.

The scoring though opened up in the final 2:29 of the half with four goals, three by Bentley. McCarthy scored a man-up goal, and after AIC's Devin Coulter scored, Bentley netted two straight just 15 seconds apart from Glavin and freshman Glenna Gies (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand).

Bentley (1-0, 1-0 NE10) will now head into its home opener on Saturday afternoon against LIU Post.
