WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 18 saves, with two big saves in the final 1:27 with Bentley protecting a one goal lead, as the No. 20 ranked Falcons defeated No. 10 ranked Pace 14-13 on Saturday.

With Bentley holding a one goal lead after a free-position shot goal by freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) broke 13-13 tie with 2:18 remaining, Bresler came up with the last two of her 18 saves on the day.

She first saved a free-position shot from Courtney Pabst with 1:27 left. Pace got the ball back, and after a Bentley foul were awarded another free-position attempt. Bresler again came up with the save, this time denying Stephanie Chadnick, to keep Bentley in front.

Bentley was able to run out the clock after that save to claim the 14-13 victory, which moved them into sole possession of third place in the NE10 standings with a 7-2 record.

Bentley led most of the afternoon and only trailed briefly once in each half. Freshman Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) had a career day with six goals to lead the offense, while seniors Carolyn Cruise (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) had two goals apiece.

McCarthy had a hat trick inside of five and a half minutes of the first half. Later in the half, a goal by Morley, assisted by McCarthy, gave Bentley its biggest lead of the game at 9-5 with 7:23 remaining in the half. Pace though closed the half on a 3-0 run to make the score 9-8 for the Falcons at halftime.

The scoring pace slowed down in the second half, but Bentley opened up a 12-9 lead with 17:04 remaining by scoring three of four goals to begin the half. Following a goal by Cruise though, Pace went on a 4-0 run that spanned 12 minutes and resulted in them going in front 13-12 with 4:12 remaining in the game.

Bentley though tied it 13-13 on a goal by senior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) with 3:12 to go. Cruise then won the draw control, which led to Glavin's go-ahead goal with 2:18 remaining.

With the win, Bentley is now 8-3 overall and have beaten four ranked teams this season. They'll look to beat another ranked team on Tuesday night when they visit No. 14 Merrimack.
