Balanced Scoring Sees No. 24 Bentley Top Saint Anselm 12-9

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Four different players scored two goals to help the No. 24 ranked Bentley University women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over Saint Anselm on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich), MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus), Sabrina Goebel (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) all scored two goals, while goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made nine saves to pick up her fifth win of the season.

Bentley's offense was slow to get going as they tallied only one goal in the opening 19 minutes as the Hawks led 4-1. But a man-up goal by Goebel at the 11:30 mark started a 6-1 run by the Falcons until the end of the half. McCarthy and Claire Thompson (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) scored just 33 seconds apart to tie the score 4-4 before a man-up goal by the Hawks.

Another 3-0 run over the final 4:15 saw Bentley lead 7-5 at halftime. The goals came from freshman Dana Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), Glavin and Goebel, with 10 seconds left.

Saint Anselm started the second half strong by outscoring Bentley 3-1 in the first 10 minutes to tie the game 8-8. There was a scoring drought of 11 minutes, but Bentley again closed the half strong, with a 4-1 run, to pull away for the victory.

Graduate student Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) got the run started with a free-position shot goal at the 9:02 mark. Staines then scored two straight at 8:05 and 7:20 as the Falcons opened up an 11-8 lead down the stretch.

With the win, the Falcons improved to 4-1 in NE10 games and 5-2 overall. They next face Saint Michael's up in Vermont on Tuesday at 3:30 in the first of two road games next week.
