Franklin Pierce Upsets No. 24 Bentley, 13-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Franklin Pierce pulled off an upset No. 24 ranked Bentley on Wednesday afternoon 13-10 to snap the Falcons' four game winning streak.

The Ravens led 10-5 at halftime, thanks in part to a 4-0 run over the half's final 10:27, and a larger 6-1 run over the final 15 minutes of the first half.

Franklin Pierce led 13-6 with 18:12 remaining in the game following a goal from Julia Miller. Neither team scored again for almost 10 minutes until Bentley's MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) found the back of the net at the 8:59 mark.

The Falcons closed the game on a 4-0 run, but didn't have enough time to close the gap and suffered the 13-10 defeat. Senior Paige O'Neill (Amityville, N.Y./St. John) scored two goals, at 3:49 and 0:07, and freshman Jillian Lynch (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) also scored at 2:15 in the closing run.

O'Neill also had four caused turnovers on the afternoon to led Bentley's defensive effort.

Bentley outshot Franklin Pierce 27-23 in shots on goal, but Ravens goalie Madison Murray came up with 17 saves.

The first 14 minutes of the first half were even with both teams scoring four times. Franklin Pierce led 3-1 after about seven minutes, but Bentley then scored three of the next four goals. Freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich), Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) and Lynch had the goals. Lynch's goal tied the game 4-4 at the 16:19 mark.

The Ravens though closed the half strong and went into intermission leading 10-5.

The defeat dropped Bentley's records to 4-2 overall and 3-1 Northeast-10. They will look to bounce back on Saturday at Saint Anselm.
