Bresler, Glavin Help Bentley to 10-8 Victory over No. 24 Stonehill

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 12 saves and freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) scored five goals to help the Bentley women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory over No. 24 ranked Stonehill on Saturday afternoon.

The win is the fourth in a row for the Falcons, and third over a ranked team this season. The winning streak has also included wins over New York Tech and Assumption as ranked teams.

Bentley scored three of the game's final four goals over the final 7:11 of the second half, while Bresler came up with a number of big saves to secure the win.

With the game tied 7-7, senior midfielder Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) scored an unassisted goal at the 7:11 mark to put Bentley in front. Just over a minute later, Glavin scored on a free-position shot, her fifth goal of the day, to give them a 9-7 lead.

Stonehill got to within 9-8 with a goal from Taylor Shannahan at the 4:01 mark. Bentley had a shot saved on its next possession, and on Stonehill's next possession, Bresler came up with the biggest save of the day when she denied Olivia Pino with 2:19 remaining to keep Bentley in front.

Following a timeout and a successful clear, freshman Jillian Lynch (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) scored with 36 seconds left on a free-position shot to put Bentley up 10-8.

That game ending run was part of a larger second half effort where Bentley outscored Stonehill 6-2.

The Skyhawks led 6-4 at halftime, but the Bentley defense didn't allow a goal until the 8:57 mark of the second half while the offense scored three unanswered goals.

In the first half, Glavin scored three of the team's four goals, and freshman Dana Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) had the other.

The Falcons improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 NE10 with the victory. They will go for five wins in a row on Wednesday at home against Franklin Pierce.
