Bentley’s 12-8 Victory over New Haven Makes it 10 Wins in a Row

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and goalie Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) were two of the main performers as 17th ranked Bentley defeated 9th ranked New Haven 12-8 on Saturday afternoon to set a new program record with a 10th victory in a row.

The win not only clinched the new winning streak record, but also the No. 3 seed in next week's Norhteast-10 Championship. Both Bentley and New Haven finished with 10-3 conference records, but Bentley gets it with the head to head tiebreaker.

In addition to Howard's five goals and Ochs' 11 saves, there were several other standout performers for the Falcons on Saturday. Junior Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) had two goals and two assists. Midfielder Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) had two goals and five ground balls, and senior Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) netted two goals as well.

Bentley started each half quickly, which helped propel them to the win. They scored three times in the first nine minutes of the 1st half to jump out to a 3-1 lead. They bettered that in the 2nd half with a 3-0 run over the first 2:25, with Howard scoring twice and O'Connor once. That run gave them a 10-4 lead.

Ochs came up with several big saves in the 2nd half and totaled eight in the half. She helped keep the Chargers off the scoreboard for almost 19 minutes until midfielder Mya Szymanski scored at the 11:37 mark to make it a 10-5 game.

After a goal by Howard at the 7:43 mark, her 5th of the day to make the score 11-5 for Bentley, New Haven went on a mini 2-0 run that cut the lead to 11-7 with 4:33 remaining. However, Hart scored a free-position goal with 3:49 to play to extend the lead back to five goals, and Bentley was on its way from that point.

With the win, the Falcons closed out the regular season with a 12-5 overall record. They will meet Stonehill in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
