No. 18 Bentley Uses Big 2nd Half to Topple Pfeiffer, 16-4

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – No. 18 Bentley outscored Pfeiffer 9-1 in the 2nd half en route to a 16-4 victory in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Friday afternoon. Junior Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) led the offense with five goals, with four in the 2nd half.

The five goals are a career-high for Shuman, who helps the Falcons improve to 2-2 on the season and gives them a 2-0 sweep of their trip through North Carolina. Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin), Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) all had two goals as well.

Bentley led 7-3 at halftime and 7-4 after a quick Pfeiffer goal after the break, but proceeded to score nine unanswered goals throughout the rest of the game.

A goal by Howard at the 27:32 mark started the run for the Falcons, however another goal wasn't scored for almost 10 minutes until Shuman scored on a free-position shot. That goal by Shuman started a spurt of six goals in about eight minutes for Bentley, which finished with an unassisted goal for Shuman with 9:24 remaining to make the score 14-4. Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) and Lunden finished the game with goals to provide the final margin.

Bentley raced out to a 4-0 lead after 11-plus minutes of the 1st half, and a 6-0 lead after 14-plus. Lindgren had two goals and one assist during the opening run. She assisted on a goal by Lunden, Bentley's second of the game at the 21:27 mark. Lindgren then scored two of the last three goals during the run, coming in-between a strike by Howard.

For its next game, the Falcons head back on the road to open Northeast-10 play at Le Moyne. That game is on Sunday at noon.
