No. 20 Bentley Runs Past Saint Michael’s 13-9

WALTHAM, Mass. – Led by five goals from senior attack Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield), the 20th ranked Bentley University women's lacrosse team posted its third straight win on Wednesday night, 13-9 over Saint Michael's.

Bentley scored the final three goals of the game over the last 12:17 of the second half, after the Purple Knights pulled to within 10-9 after a goal from midfielder Steph Bonewald at the 12:55 mark. However, Brown scored her fifth goal of the night just 38 seconds later to give Bentley a two goal lead at 11-9.

Bentley then clamped down defensively the rest of the way, and pulled away with goals in the final two minutes from Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) and senior co-captain Amy Ernst (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central).

The Falcons used two different 3-0 runs in the first half to take control. With Bentley trailing 3-2 in the early going, Brown started the first run with her second goal of the game at the 22:07 mark. Shuman and Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) also scored during the run to give them a 4-3 lead with 16:26 to play in the first half.

Saint Michael's scored the next two goals, with Bonewald giving them a 5-4 lead the 11:37 mark. But Bentley quickly went back ahead, as attacker Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) and Brown scored just 33 seconds apart. Midfielder Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) then found the back of the net on a free-position shot to make it 7-5 for Bentley with 6:56 before halftime.

Bentley then answered a goal by attacker Courtney Piper with the last two goals of the half from Brown and Shuman to lead 9-6 going into the locker rooms.

Saint Michael's crept closer with two goals in the first five minutes of the second half, but Lindgren's second of the game at the 18:33 mark kept Bentley in front 10-8, before Bonewald scored the visitor's final goal of the game with 12:55 remaining.

The Falcons improve to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in the NE-10 with their third straight win, while the Purple Knights drop to 3-6 overall and 3-5 in the conference. Bentley will look to make it four straight when they host Saint Anselm on Saturday at noon.
