No. 12 Bentley Falls to No. 1 LIU Post 17-5 in Regular Season Finale

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Two days after wrapping up its Northeast-10 slate, the Bentley University women's lacrosse team closed out its 2013 regular season against the top ranked team in Division II LIU Post, but were beaten by the Pioneers 17-5 on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game.

The undefeated Pioneers are now 16-0 on the season and have been the unanimous No. 1 team in Division II the last two weeks. Bentley wraps up the regular season with an 11-6 overall record and will go into next week's Northeast-10 Championships as the fifth seed.

Junior midfielder Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) led the Bentley offense with three goals. Two of those goals came just over a minute apart early in the second half. After Bentley trailed 8-1 at halftime, those first two goals of the half brought the Falcons to within 8-3.

After Larivee's two straight, the teams proceeded to alternate the next four goals. Senior Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and freshman Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) found the back of the net for Bentley, and Abbie Ross and Jackie Sileo scored for the Pioneers, making the score 10-5 for LIU with nine minutes gone.

But Bentley would not score again after Howard's goal made it 10-5 at the 20:59 mark, and LIU scored the final seven goals of the game.

Sileo, who came into the game leading Division II in both assists and points, had a game high six goals and five assists, pushing her to 104 assists and 149 points for the season. Bentley though did hold senior Ashley Olen, Division II's leader in goals, to just one.

The Falcons will now turn their attention to the NE-10 playoffs, where they will play at fourth seeded New Haven Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm. It's a rematch of last year's first round encounter which Bentley won 9-8.
