Brown Scores Four to Lead No. 9 Bentley Past Lenoir-Rhyne 18-7

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Sophomore Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) scored four goals as Bentley University bounced back from a tough season-opening loss to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 18-7 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Friday afternoon.

Senior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) had a game-high five points for Bentley on a goal and four assists, while junior Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) had two goals and two assists and freshman Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) had a goal and three assists. Freshman Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) also had a hat trick.

The Falcons only briefly trailed in the first half before a 3-0 run that spanned eight minutes put them up for good at 6-4. They trailed 4-3 at the 17:04 mark after a goal by Lenoir's Hayley Beattie, but tied it up four minutes later on a goal by freshman Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough). Just 29 seconds later junior Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) gave Bentley a 5-4 lead.

Another goal wasn't scored for almost seven minutes, but the next one was scored by Brown, her third of the half, to give Bentley a 6-4 advantage. However, Beattie scored for Lenoir with just 35 seconds left in the half to make it 6-5 at halftime.

Bentley though started the second half on fire, a 6-0 run that took less than six minutes, to take a 12-5 lead. Six different players scored during the run.

Lenoir's last goal of the game came with 16:12 left, off the stick of Sarah Gioconda, that made the score 14-7. Bentley though finished strong with the game's final four goals to put the contest away.

The Falcons improve to 1-1 on the season with the victory, while the Bears drop to 3-3. Bentley will next host Le Moyne on Sunday at 12:00 pm for its home and Northeast-10 opener.
