Spagnoletta, Fucich Combine to Lead No. 5 C.W. Post over Bentley

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Lauren Spagnoletta and senior Michelle Fucich combined for 13 points to lead the fifth-ranked C.W. Post Pioneers to a 19-9 win over the Bentley University women's lacrosse team Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.

Spagnoletta had a game-high five goals to go along with two assists, while Fucich went for two goals and four assists. Going deeper down the stat sheet, three other Pioneers were big contributors. Freshman Jackie Sileo had five points (three goals, two assists) junior Nan Mayott had four points (three goals, one assist) and sophomore Abigail Ross had a hat trick.

Junior Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) paced the Bentley attack with four goals and one assist, while sophomores Dovlyn Curtis (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) each scored twice.

The Pioneers jumped out to a big lead in the first half, 9-0 before Bentley got on the scoreboard. Spagnoletta had two goals during the run. Wiggins made her presence felt for Bentley as the first half wound down, scoring four goals over the last 10:23 to get the Falcons to within 11-4 at the break.

Bentley scored the first two goals of the second half from Curtis and Carney to make the score 11-6, but C.W. Post went on a 4-0 to go back up by nine goals at 15-6. The Falcons answered with a 3-0 run of their own, getting to within 15-9 with just over 15 minutes remaining, but the Pioneers didn't allow another goal the rest of the game.

C.W. Post improves to 4-1 on the season with the victory, and Bentley drops to 3-5 overall. The Falcons are back in action Wednesday night when they host Saint Michael's.
