Carney, Guercia Help Bentley Down Franklin Pierce, 19-7

RINDGE, N.H. – Sophomore Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) had a game-high four goals and sophomore Margeaux Guercia (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) had a hat trick as the Bentley University women's lacrosse team improved to 1-1 in Northeast-10 play with a 19-7 victory over Franklin Pierce Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to Carney and Guercia, juniors Lauren Canepa (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Torre Taylor (Locust Valley, N.Y./Friends Academy), sophomores Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and Dovlyn Curtis (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and freshman Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) each had two goals.

Bentley raced out to a 7-1 lead behind seven different goal scorers, and led 9-4 at the break. Carney scored twice over the final 2:23 of the half.

The Falcons opened up the second half with goals from Geiger and Carney to lead 11-4, but Franklin Pierce scored two in a row on goals by Lindsey Leach and Lauren Stille to make it 11-6. That was the closest the Ravens got the rest of the game, however.

Bentley took over during the final 24-plus minutes, scoring eight of the final nine goals. They scored four in a row after Stille's goal, with Taylor, Guercia, Curtis and Larivee all finding the back of the net, making the score 15-6 with 20:33 left in the game.

Junior goalie Kate Poznick (Fitchburg, Mass./St. Bernard's) earned the win for the Falcons, who improve to 2-3 on the year. Franklin Pierce suffers its first loss of the season and drops to 3-1.

Bentley is off until March 29 when they play at Stonehill.
