This Day in Bentley History – March 23, 1990: Women’s Basketball Punches Ticket for National Championship Game

Thirty years ago today, the Bentley women's basketball qualified for the 1990 NCAA Division II national championship game with a 72-68 victory over Oakland University out in Pomona, Calif.

A lay-up from Cheryl Boettger with 39 seconds left put Bentley in front to stay, 67-66. Stacy Pahl came up big down the stretch with a steal, an offensive rebound and two free throws. Her only points of the game produced a four-point game with ten seconds remaining.

Tracie Seymour led Bentley with 16 points and six rebounds, and Coach Barbara Stevens also received 15 points from Boettger and 14 from Missy Wolfe.

Bentley's 23-game winning streak and dreams of a national championship came to an end the following night when the Falcons fell to Delta State, which captured its second straight title.
