No. 20 Bentley Visits Le Moyne Tuesday for Rematch of 2019 NE10 Championship Game

WALTHAM, Mass. – In the first meeting of the two teams since the 2019 Northeast-10 Women's Basketball championship game, the Bentley University Falcons will face off against the Le Moyne College Dolphins Tuesday at 5 pm at Le Moyne's Ted Grant Court in Syracuse, N.Y. The rematch can be viewed on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, number 20 in last week's D2SIDA media, will make the trek to central New York alone at the top of the NE10's Northeast Division, with a one-game lead over Saint Anselm College. The Falcons are 11-1 since Christmas, 10-1 in conference action and 15-4 overall.

They'll be taking on a Le Moyne team that is currently third in the Southwest Division. The Dolphins are 11-7 overall and 7-4 Northeast-10 after dropping a 75-70 decision to Saint Anselm on Saturday.

Coach Barbara Stevens and her team will be looking for a better outcome than they experienced nearly a year ago when Le Moyne shut down Bentley in the NE10 title game, 67-45. The Dolphins outshot the Falcons 53-36 percent and allowed only one three-pointer in 20 attempts.

Le Moyne was responsible for half of Bentley's four losses last season as they also put the clamps on during the regular season, prevailing 58-40 in the Dana Center with the Falcons limited to 22 percent shooting.

This year's Falcons are averaging just under 69 points a game and have scored 70 or more in their last nine victories. They've led from the opening basket in each of the last three games while outshooting the opponents 49-34 percent during that stretch.

Senior center Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS) has had a dominating six-game stretch that included a career-high 29 points in only 23 minutes in Saturday's 75-47 win at American International. During the six games, she's averaged just under 20 a game with 118 points in 130 minutes and a .618 field goal percentage.

For the season, Viapiano is averaging 15.5 points and 6.7 rebounds while owning the conference's third best field goal percentage (.566) and a .907 accuracy mark from the foul stripe.

Also in doubles on the scoring list for the Falcons is sophomore guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North HS). She's averaged 16 points in the last three games, raising her season norm to 12.2.

Le Moyne features senior guard McKayla Roberts, the number two scorer in the conference with a 19.2 average. She's made an NE10-high 53 three-pointers with a 41 percent accuracy rate, is shooting 91 percent at the foul line and has scored at least 27 points in four straight games, including a school record 39 against Southern New England.

Threats from downtown also include junior guard Liz Millea and six-two sophomore Jenna Zimmerman, who have made 35 and 26 triples, respectively. Millea scores 12.2 points a game and Zimmerman follows at 9.9.

Bentley and Le Moyne are the only NE10 teams who rank in the top five in both scoring offense and defense. The Falcons are fourth in offense and second in defense while the Dolphins follow in both categories.

Bentley will be back in the Dana Center Saturday for a 1:30 pm game against Adelphi University, which leads the Southwest Division and is 18-2 overall.
